Ghana and Nigeria battled to a goalless draw in the first leg of the qualifying playoff round for the 2025 African Championships at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Black Stars controlled much of the midfield, dictating the tempo of the game, but their attacking line lacked the cutting edge needed to break the deadlock. Nigeria’s defensive resilience, led by captain Nduka Junior and an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Ozoemena Ani, kept the hosts at bay throughout the 90 minutes.
Despite several promising chances, Ghana’s forwards were unable to find a way past the Super Eagles’ formidable backline, leaving the tie delicately poised heading into the second leg.
The decisive return leg is set for Saturday, December 28 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. With the aggregate score still level, victory for either side will guarantee a spot in the 2025 African Championships, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Both teams will be eager to secure progression and avoid the disappointment of missing out on one of the continent’s most prestigious tournaments.
