BREAKING: Tension in Kano as heavily armed security personnel take over Emir Sanusi’s palace
Heavily armed policemen and operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) have surrounded the Kano Emir’s Palace at Kofar Kudu, restricting both entry and exit from the premises.
The deployment of security to the palace was a result of moves by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II to install his newly appointed Wamban Kano, District Head of Bichi.
DAILY POST gathered that Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II is scheduled to accompany the newly appointed Wamban Kano, Munir Sanusi, to his official district posting in Bichi.
Reliable sources have also confirmed that the Bichi Emir’s Palace is under tight security, with armed policemen deployed to the area.
Two weeks ago, the National Chairman of APC, Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, while at Bichi, insisted that the Bichi Emirate Council remains valid and that Emir Nasiru Ado Bayero remains the instituted emir.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, while acting on the newly passed Kano Emirate Council Law, invalidated the five emirs, removing them from their chiefdoms.
However, a few days later, the same government appointed three second-class emirs, excluding Bichi, which made a district head’s domain.
One hundred and nine personnel of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, have been commissioned as the pioneer armed squad of the anti-graft agency.
DAILY POST recalls that the Federal Government, through the Office of the National Security Adviser, had approved the request by the commission to bear arms.
At the graduation ceremony held at the Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment, Asokoro Abuja, on Wednesday, the chairman of ICPC, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, congratulated the graduands just as he described their commissioning into the elite armed squad of Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies as a significant milestone not only for them (graduands) but for the commission, which is determined to build the capacity of its workforce for the responsibility of ridding the nation of corruption and similar vices.
The ICPC boss, who was represented at the ceremony by the commission’s Director of Operations, Shehu Yahaya, also noted that the skills acquired in the course of the one-month intensive training would no doubt inspire the graduands to serve the commission diligently.
Officials of Abakaliki Correctional Service have attacked an Ebonyi based legal practitioner, Ekigbo Sampson, causing him severe ear injuries.
Ekigbo was diagnosed with ear trauma with otitis media after the attack by the prison officials, according to a police medical report obtained by DAILY POST from Nigeria Police Medical Department at the state police headquarters, Abakaliki, signed by DSP Uche Okette.
The report stated that the lawyer has “history of slap at his right ear which caused him pains and trauma”.
He was referred to Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki for further treatment after receiving first aid.
It was gathered that four armed officials of the Abakaliki Correctional Service Centre attacked Ekigbo on Tuesday evening.
A petition signed by his lawyers, J. Elom and Kingsley Ogodo and copied to the state Commissioner of Police, Adaku Uche-Anya, read: “On the 26th day of November, 2024 at about 1400 hours, our client while on transit around filing station, Abakaliki/Enugu Expressway, was collided into by a tricycle.
“Upon the occurrence of this incident, our client packed across Hariz filing station and walked into the filing station to sort out how to fix his vehicle, discharging the tricycle driver.
“While waiting outside for his mechanic, our client was just walking across the filing station when the suspects at about 1427 hours drove in a Green Hiace Hummer Toyota bus of the Abakaliki Medium Correctional Center and attempted to collude into our client.
“Our client merely asked the driver of Hiace Hummer Toyota bus whether he knows what he is doing and moved on, only for Mr. Pius Nwode to alight from the bus with him arm/gun together with one tall dark officer and aggressively walked to our client and slapped him hard on his right ear, cocked his gun, pointed at our client and retorted aggressively thus: “I will waste you here and nothing will happen”.
“Upon hearing this statement with a cocked gun pointed at him, our client was in grace fear for his life as he was uncertain as to next line of action the suspects will take.”
When contacted on the issue, Public Relations Officer of the Abakaliki Medium Correctional Centre, Nneka Iyasei, said she has not received report on the incident.

A new report confirms that the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) has received repeated deliveries of weapons from Iran since December 2023, when the two countries restored diplomatic ties after an eight-year hiatus.
Researchers at the Conflict Observatory used open-source documentation to track at least seven military cargo flights from airports in Iran to Port Sudan, the wartime headquarters of the SAF and Sudan’s junta-led government overseen by Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. Two other flights are considered “very likely” deliveries because the planes turned off their transponders just before landing in Sudan.
The Conflict Observatory tracked flights of the Iranian 747-200 operated by Qeshm Fars Air between December 2023 and July 25, 2024. The aircraft is one of a few of its kind in operation, which makes it easy to identify in satellite images, according to researchers. It was used previously to deliver weapons to Iranian-backed fighters in Syria.
The Conflict Observatory report confirmed reports by Sudan War Monitor in January about Iranian flights landing in Port Sudan.
“The new report is much more comprehensive and details additional flights that were not previously reported elsewhere,” Sudan War Monitor researchers stated.
The first flights happened shortly before Iranian Mohajer-6 unmanned aerial vehicles were deployed against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Sudan’s battlefield. RSF fighters revealed the existence of the drones in social media posts after they shot one down in January.
“The research team could not establish alternative explanations for how new Iranian weapons appeared on the battlefield,” the Conflict Observatory reported.
International observers have accused Iran and the United Arab Emirates of exacerbating the Sudan conflict by supplying a steady stream of weapons to each side. The UAE has supplied the RSF through Chad’s Maréchal Idriss Deby International Airport in Amdjarass, according to the Conflict Observatory. The airport was significantly upgraded after the UAE provided Chad with a $1.5 billion loan.
According to observers, Iran’s renewed relations with Sudan derive from Iran’s desire to have a foothold on the Red Sea from which it could attack international shipping and threaten its regional rival, Saudi Arabia.
“Iran has exploited the Sudanese regime’s need for drone platforms, and news stories of alleged offers of additional drones and a helicopter carrier in exchange for a Port Sudan base cloud Iran’s history with Sudan,” analyst John Ringquist wrote recently in Balloons to Drones, a website specializing in the history of air power.
So far, Sudan’s leadership has refused to grant Iran port access for a military or dual-use facility.
The SAF has used its drones for intelligence-gathering and for kamikaze-style attacks on RSF positions across the country. Iranian drones, including the low-flying Ababil-3, have helped the SAF recover territory from the RSF in recent months. Sudanese military leaders told Radio Dabanga in March that drones played a decisive role in reclaiming the Omdurman neighborhood that is home to Sudan’s national broadcaster.
Observers say that SAF success with Iranian drones could drive the two countries closer together and fuel other conflicts in the region.
“It will turn the Red Sea into an arena for international confrontation, further complicating the security posture in the region and exposing international navigation to major threats,” analyst Abdal Monim Himmat wrote recently in The Arab Weekly.

The Osun State Police Command has paraded Emmanuel Anthony, accused of using military uniforms to rob passengers along Ekiti Road.
Parading the suspect on Friday at the police command headquarters in Osogbo, Yemisi Opalola, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), revealed that Anthony allegedly forced a victim from Esa-Oke to transfer N3 million to his account.
Anthony is also accused of attacking two others and robbing them of mobile phones valued at N1.25 million.
Opalola said, “On the 31st of May, 2024, at about 1430hrs, one Amole Muiz ‘m’ and Adegoke Gbenga ‘m,’ of Wole–Oke Street, Esa-Oke, reported that unknown gunmen in military uniforms came in a Honda Pilot Jeep, waylaid them, and took them into a bush along Ekiti Road.
“Subsequently, they forced the victims to transfer the sum of N3 million from their bank account into a Monie-point account before they were released. Similarly, one Olawumi Oluwaseun and Ishola, both ‘m,’ were also attacked by the same armed gunmen and robbed of their iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, respectively, valued at N1.25 million before they were also freed.
“Having received this report, detectives from the Anti-kidnapping Squad, through technical and intelligence analysis, identified the account name as belonging to one David Agbebaku ‘m,’ who was later confirmed to have already been arrested by the police in Oyo State.
“Further analysis led the detectives to the arrest of one Anthony Emmanuel ‘m’ in Ibadan. The suspect confessed to being a dismissed soldier and admitted conspiring with David and two others, who are also dismissed military men, to carry out the operations on the victims.
“The suspect was identified by the victims as one of the members of the armed robbery gang that perpetrated the offence.”
Seven other suspects arrested for conspiracy, armed robbery, and receiving stolen vehicles were also paraded.
Opalola added that suspects Lawan Yaro, Gambo Dugje, Adam Abba, Ali Usman, Ali Muhammed, Abbas Abogu, Kamal Haudu, and others would be arraigned in court once investigations into their crimes are completed.
Also, a 23-year-old armed robbery suspect, Godwin Emmanuel, confessed to stealing a police officer’s phone from a patrol van while being transported to the Osun State Police Command.
It was gathered that Emmanuel was arrested along with two other suspects, Olajide Kareem, 28, and Emmanuel Mike, 33, who allegedly robbed residents along the Ilesa-Osu Expressway.
Opalola disclosed, “This case involves incidents of conspiracy and armed robbery along the Ilesa-Osu Expressway by a gang of suspected armed robbers targeting motorists and passengers. The gang robbed them of belongings such as jewelry, various handsets, money, and other valuables. In one of the incidents, a bus driver was shot in the leg but was subsequently rushed to the Seventh-day Adventist Hospital in Ile-Ife, where he received treatment.
“Consequently, the DPO at Moore Division, Ile-Ife, led his patrol team, together with members of the local vigilante group, and arrested one Olajide Kareem ‘m’ in the bush.
“Following the report, the suspect confessed to being a member of a five-man gang of armed robbers who came from the Ikorodu area in Lagos State to perpetrate their acts in Osun State.
“Subsequently, intelligence-driven investigation and strategic tactical operations led the operatives of the Anti-kidnapping Squad to the Majidun area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, where the duo of Mike Emmanuel and Godwin Emmanuel were arrested. The two suspects, upon their arrest, confessed to the offences.
“During the investigation, one of the female victims, about 65 years old, identified Olajide Kareem as the person who raped her while she was accompanying her sick husband to the hospital before their vehicle was stopped at gunpoint. Consequently, this incident led to the death of her sick husband on the spot.”
All the suspects, Opalola said, would be charged to court at the end of the investigation.

“The Adeyemi Adijat raised alarm and also called some hoodlums around the Area; the hoodlums came out in large numbers and beat Adewale Temitope to death.
“Meanwhile, five suspects have been apprehended by men of special Anti-cultism squad Osun for further investigation. Suspects will be charged to court after the completion of investigation.”
Also paraded by the command were, 32-year-old Saheed Bakare aka Ewe for alleged conspiracy, armed robbery, murder, membership of an unlawful society and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.
Opalola said, “Sequel to the arrest and prosecution of the notorious cult leader Owoeye Olabode a.k.a. “Bode Itaapa”, most members of the confraternity relocated from Iwara to Igangan, where they have been terrorising residents in that area.
“Consequently, on the 11/11/2024 at about 2330hrs, upon receiving credible intelligence, the operatives of the Anti-kidnapping squad swung into action and combed the entire community where the suspect Bakare Saheed ‘m’ was arrested while he was unlawfully cutting down commercial trees around Igangan forest without the consent of the innocent owners.
“One of the victims stated that “Ewe” came to his farm along with other cultists fully armed with dangerous weapons, beat him up mercilessly, while threatening to shoot him with a gun and ordered him to leave his farm. He had no choice due to his safety but to leave the farm or be killed.
“During the interrogation, the suspect confessed to the killing of one late Tafa, a member of Eiye Confraternity sometime in the year 2020, under the instruction of Bode Owoeye a.k.a. “Bode Itaapa”. He confessed that Bode Owoeye gave him the barrel gun which he used to perpetrate the act and collected it from him after the operation.
“He stated that in 2014, he was initiated into Aye by one Solo Iwara, Bode Itaapa, Bisi Iwara and Allen J. (now late).
“He further claimed that all their weapons were in the custody of one Akanni, who is still at large.”
26 years old Oladele Sunday aka Okoro was also arrested for the unlawful membership of society and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.
In his possession were two locally made single-barrel pistols.
The statement said, “The determination of the Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Umar to rid Osun State of the activities of cultists since taking over the command has been a fight of “No retreat, no surrender”. As a result of these efforts, most cultists had fled the State; some had been arrested and prosecuted.
“Consequently, after the gruesome killing of three innocent victims by one Awe Mayowa a.k.a. “Bishop Apase” and his gang over a drug deal around Ilesa sometime in September 2024, the operatives of the Anti-kidnapping Squad owing to credible intelligence swung into action and raided several black spots and in the process, arrested one Oladele Sunday ‘m’ while two locally made single barrel pistols were recovered in his possession.
“Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the said Oladele Sunday ‘m’ a.k.a. Okoro previously belonged to the cult gang under one Rasheed a.k.a. “Oko-Ilu” who was terrorizing Ede town and its environs.
“Consequent upon the arrest and prosecution of Rasheed a.k.a. “Oko-Ilu”, Okoro who fled Ede town subsequently relocated to Ilesha and regrouped with another deadly Eiye cult group headed by one Awe Mayowa a.k.a. “Bishop Apase”.
Opalola who said intelligence is still ongoing to arrest some of the suspects for prosecution, added that they will be prosecuted after the completion of the investigation.

The court, however, discharged and acquitted the fourth defendant, Promise Shie (27), as none of the four counts could be established against him.
The defendants were arraigned on four counts bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms, contrary to Sections 6(b), 1(2) and 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act., Cap. Rll, Vol. 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The charges read, “That Alexander Solomon, Desmond Peter, Eric Tile and Promise Shie on July 7, 2022, along the Ilumoba-Aisegba Ekiti Road, Aisegba Ekiti, did conspire to commit armed robbery and unlawfully possessed firearms, to wit Beretta pistol.
“The defendants, while armed with guns, robbed Okey Jude and Jayeoba Ayobami of their belongings such as laptops, phones and N540,000 cash among others,” the charges read.
In his statement to the police, Jude, who said the two victims were drivers and representatives of a marketing company, said, “We left Ado Ekiti for Akoko area of Ondo State at about 3 pm after the day’s sales. We were stopped between Ilumoba and Aisegba Ekiti by the defendants.
“Initially, we thought they were vigilante members enforcing the COVID-19 rules, but at gunpoint, they asked us to lay face down, searched the vehicle and carted away all our phones, laptops, N540,000 cash and other things I could not remember.
“We narrated our ordeal to the O’dua Peoples Congress members who we met at a roadblock. While we were with them, the robbers drove past. The OPC members gave them a chase while we went to the nearest police station to make formal complaint,” he said.
The prosecutor, Gbemiga Adaramola, called four witnesses and tendered two guns, phones, laptops, a cutlass, an axe, and facemasks among others as exhibits.
The defendants, who spoke in their defence through their respective lawyers, called no witness.
In the judgment, Justice Bamidele Omotoso said, “I hold that the prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt the offence of conspiracy, armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms against the first, second and third defendants.
“Consequently, for the offence of armed robbery, they are all sentenced to death by hanging, may the Lord have mercy on your souls”.
Justice Omotoso, who said the prosecution failed to establish any of the offences against the fourth defendant (Promise Shie), pronounced, “He is accordingly discharged and acquitted.”
