Emmanuel Amuneke, Heartland’s technical adviser, offered his opinions on his team’s matchup with Rangers in the Oriental Derby.
Last Saturday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, Fidelis Ilechukwu’s team held the Naze Millionaires to a 0-0 tie.
After the draw, Heartland increased their winning streak to five games.
Amuneke acknowledged that the visitors made things tough for his squad, but he insisted that they entered the game with the goal of earning as many points as possible.
The 1994 African Player of the Year winner added that they are now focussing on their away game against Kwara United on Wednesday.
“Our intention is always to win. When you watch how we play, we try to manage the game while adapting to the challenges posed by the opposition.
“Rangers are a strong team with quality players, and as defending champions, they deserve respect,” Amuneke said after the game.
“We started the season on a shaky note, but we understand what went wrong and are working to improve.
” It’s important that we didn’t lose today.
“Now, we’ll go back, correct our mistakes, and prepare for our next game against Kwara United in Ilorin on Wednesday.”
