African champions Banyana Banyana take on the “Red and White” of Denmark tomorrow night in the first-ever international match between the two countries.
The match on Friday, 25 October 2024 will be played at 18h00 at Aalborg Stadium in Aalborg, Denmark. The Sasol-sponsored South African Senior Women’s National Team will use this match as part of the preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers early next year.
Coach Dr Desiree Ellis will also use this game and the match against England next week to gain much-needed international experience ahead of her team’s defense of the WAFCON title in the tournament to be held in Morocco in June 2025.
Speaking to www.safa.net, Ellis said that the main objective of this match is to get back into the swing of international football.
“We haven’t played since early June when we faced Senegal, so we are happy to regroup for these two big tests (against Denmark and England). I am satisfied with how the players committed to our training session yesterday and really showed enthusiasm for this tour in Europe.
“This match is good because it will remind us of our strengths and help us build as a team. We are very good defensively and we know that Denmark will test us in this area,” said Dr Ellis.
“We will be looking at our all-round performance because we are looking at a bigger picture, which is to retain our title as African Champions next year. Although four of our international players couldn’t get the visas to Denmark due to residency permits, I believe we have quality in the camp, and they will be able to meet our objectives tomorrow.”
