Nigeria’s Super Eagles ended the season as the fifth-best team in Africa, according to the most recent FIFA World Rankings.
Despite a difficult international break, Nigeria is still ranked in the same spot as before, according to the rankings released by the world football governing body on Thursday morning.
According to the rankings, Nigeria saw a sharp fall this year, falling eight spots to finish 2024 at 44th place worldwide.
This drop followed poor showings in the 2025 AFCON qualifying tournament, as the Super Eagles failed to win any games against Rwanda and the Benin Republic.
Bafana Bafana of South Africa, on the other hand, had a comeback, moving up three spots to end the year in 57th place globally.
Their recent performance and winning games in the qualifications are shown in this progress.
Ghana, a West African opponent, struggled as well, finishing the year ranked 77th in the world, underscoring the difficulty that both Nigeria and Ghana have had holding onto their spots among Africa’s top teams.
