Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ rekindled their title defence on Wednesday afternoon following their decisive 4-0 victory over Central Bank of Ethiopia.
The South Africans recovered from their shocking 1-0 loss to Egyptian debutants FC Masar on Saturday to play well against the Ethiopians, who were no match for Masandawana’s brilliance.
Sundowns sent a clear message of intent in the first half, scoring all four of their goals in the first stanza thanks to strikes from Joyce Rabale and the quick Lelona Daweti, as well as a brace from Melinda Kgadiete.
The early goals solidified the match’s one-sidedness, with Sundowns controlling the most of the possession and posing no threat to the Ethiopian team.
The loss against Sundowns marks the end of CBE’s CAF Women’s Champions League debut, as it is their second straight setback after their humiliating 3-0 loss to TP Edo Queens.
