With the international break upon us, Mamelodi Sundowns and three other teams in the Premier Soccer League will spend time in the Eastern Cape for the Home of Legends Cup that will take place on Saturday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
The inaugural competition consists of four teams that will be vying for the title. The format of the tournament consists of two semifinals, and the two teams that win the respective semi-final rounds will head to the final to compete for the silverware, with all the stages taking place in one day.
Looking ahead to what will be a mouthwatering jam-packed day in Gqeberha, defender Zuko Mdunyelwa said the process of gearing up for the tournament has been going well for the team.
He further stated that his side is confident enough to get the job done and make the Mamelodi Sundowns supporters happy.
“The preparations have been going very well. As a team, we carry the mentality that every tournament we participate in is important, and the mandate is always to win. So, we are very prepared for this tournament,” he said.
“The first semifinal will be between Kaizer Chiefs and Lamontville Golden Arrows, and the second semifinal will be between us and Chippa United. We will then see which side we will be pitted against in the final when we win. I don’t want to speak much about what we will do on the pitch; our performance will speak for itself, hoping that our supporters will be pleased,” he continued.
Bafana Ba Style will head to the tournament without some players who are injured and those who are in their respective national teams for the international break.
This, according to Mdunyelwa, will not matter in the field of play as he believes that the coaches have come up with a great team that is capable of winning the prestigious tournament on Saturday.
“We are Mamelodi Sundowns; we can tackle any challenge despite not having the majority of our players due to injuries and national duties. The coaches have trusted us to get the job done and get the desired results at the tournament, and that’s what we will do when we get there,” the defender concluded.
