Nthabiseng Majiya and Andile Dlamini have expressed their delight at being nominated in various categories at the upcoming CAF Awards. This year’s CAF Awards cover the period between January 2024 and October 2024.
Majiya, who has enjoyed a blistering start to her Masandawana career, has been nominated for the Young Player of the Year award. The Sundowns Ladies forward, who has scored 14 goals in the Hollywoodbets Super League this season, shared what the nomination means to her.
“I am very excited to be nominated, and it is a significant achievement to be recognised for such an honour. Football is a team sport, and I would not have achieved this without the incredible support of my coaches, teammates and family. Being nominated motivates me to push even harder, not just for myself but for my teammates and everyone who supports me. This nomination also inspires other kids to believe in themselves and work hard to achieve their dreams.”
Meanwhile, Andile Dlamini has been nominated for the prestigious Goalkeeper of the Year award. Known for her consistency and leadership, Dlamini has been a key player for Sundowns Ladies, earning widespread recognition for her contributions to the team’s success.
The Banyana Ba Style goalkeeper expressed her gratitude, saying, “In all honesty, I am grateful to be nominated. I am inspired every day to do more because, as an African and a South African, I have a huge responsibility to inspire the next generation. This nomination is truly a motivation to keep going and to continue striving for excellence both on and off the field.”
Dlamini also played a significant role as one of the draw assistants at the recent draws for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2024. Next year’s WAFCON, scheduled to take place from July 5 to 26, 2025, will feature 12 of Africa’s top national teams competing for Continental glory.
In addition to the individual nominations of Majiya and Dlamini, Sundowns Ladies have also been shortlisted for the Club of the Year award, further cementing their reputation as one of the Continent’s elite teams.
The CAF Awards ceremony will be held on December 16, 2024, in Marrakech, Morocco, where the winners will be announced.
