Southampton have reached an agreement with Belgian Pro League side Royal Antwerp for the transfer of 20-year-old Nigerian forward Victor Udoh. The deal sees Udoh make the switch to the south coast, where he is initially expected to link up with the Saints’ academy setup.
Udoh, a left-sided attacker, has made 28 senior appearances for Antwerp, though he is yet to find the net. Most of his game time has come in late substitute appearances, limiting his opportunities to make a significant impact. Since December, he has primarily featured for Antwerp’s under-23 side in Belgium’s third division.
Despite his modest senior record, Udoh is considered a promising prospect. Southampton, known for their focus on youth development, see potential in the young Nigerian and will look to refine his talents within their academy system. The club has a strong track record of nurturing young players, and Udoh will hope to follow in the footsteps of several talents who have successfully transitioned from the youth ranks to the first team.
Antwerp, five-time Belgian league champions, have agreed to let Udoh move on in search of greater opportunities for his development. The transfer aligns with Southampton’s long-term strategy of identifying and developing young talent, particularly from emerging football markets.
The move is expected to be finalized pending a medical and personal terms agreement. Southampton supporters will be keen to see how Udoh adapts to his new environment as he looks to make his mark in English football.
