The South Africa U17 Women’s National Team will begin their quest to qualify for a third FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup this weekend when they face Gabon in the first leg of the qualifiers in Franceville, Gabon.
Head Coach Ntombifuthi Khumalo has named 20 players who will travel to the Central African county for the first leg. Speaking to www.safa.net, Khumalo said while the team only camped for a few days before departure to Gabon, the players had been prepared well in advance.
“We used the 2024 COSAFA Girls Championships as our main preparations for these qualifiers and the players were give a program to follow during the holidays,” said Khumalo. “We have built a strong team and believe they will able to represent the country well in these qualifiers.”
Gabon will host South Africa in the first leg on 11 January 2025 in Franceville, with the second leg scheduled for 18 January 2025, at Lucas Moripe Stadium at 16h00.
