The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu, has approved free registration for indigent students seeking admission into tertiary institutions through the 2025/2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry.
Announcing the initiative in a statement on Friday, the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Isa Maishanu, said the approval aligns with the governor’s commitment to expanding access to education.
“To alleviate the financial burden on families, Governor Aliyu has also approved the payment of online registration fees for all eligible students,” Maishanu stated.
He described the initiative as a noble gesture aimed at ensuring that underprivileged students have equal opportunities to secure admission into Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions.
According to the statement, the distribution of JAMB/UTME and Direct Entry PINs will begin at the secretariats of all 23 local government areas in the state.
“Interested candidates are required to visit their respective secretariats to collect and complete the necessary forms.
“The state Ministry for Higher Education will oversee the entire process to ensure a seamless operation,” Maishanu added.
The statement also advised interested candidates to generate a Profile Code by texting “NIN” followed by their eleven-digit National Identification Number (NIN) to 55019 before proceeding with registration.
