SAFA has admitted to experiencing cash flow challenges, resulting in the non-payment of match bonuses to Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana players for the past three months.
According to SAFA’s CEO, Lydia Monyepao, the association owes players match fees, but has paid their daily allowances. Monyepao explained that the liquidity problems are due to the high costs of hosting games and qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“We still have huge gaps that we still need to cover. Qualifying for AFCON was everything for us, we had to make sure the team got the best logistics so that it could qualify,” she said as quoted by World News Sports.
