Veteran Athletic Bilbao midfielder and former Spanish player Raul Garcia has offered insights into why his teammate Iñaki Williams has faced challenges adapting to the Ghanaian national team. Speaking to LALIGA press, Garcia acknowledged Williams’ commitment to representing Ghana but highlighted the difficulties posed by international duty.
“It is true that he has not reached the desired levels when he plays for Ghana,” Garcia admitted. “This is, however, no excuse, but normally for these matches you have to travel long hours, and this is not good for the performance of a player. But he wants to do things the right way, and he wants to be there.”
Williams, who made his debut for the Black Stars in 2022, has struggled to replicate his club form on the international stage. Garcia pointed to the challenges of integrating into a new environment as a key factor affecting his performances.
“Obviously, the circumstances of having brand new colleagues and not really being adapted to the team don’t make the situation any easier. As you say, he’s playing in the north of Spain, and we’ve all known each other for many years, so it makes it easier.”
Despite the difficulties, Garcia expressed confidence in Williams’ ability to eventually thrive for Ghana.
“I’m sure Iñaki will achieve wonderful results, and he is aware that he has to forge ahead. I am sure he will find form in the team soon enough.”
Williams’ dedication to the Ghanaian national team remains unquestionable, and his perseverance could soon lead to significant contributions for the Black Stars. As he continues to adapt to the demands of international football, his experience and resilience could prove invaluable to Ghana’s ambitions on the global stage.
