The Rivers State Police Command has commenced the enforcement of the Third-Party Vehicle Insurance Policy, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, announced that the enforcement takes effect from February 1, 2025.
Iringe-Koko said the state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has instructed officers to uphold professionalism and integrity during the enforcement process.
The PRO said the CP also warned against “any form of misconduct that could tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force”, emphasizing that severe sanctions would be imposed on officers who act unlawfully.
CP Adepoju further urged vehicle owners to obtain valid Third-Party Insurance to avoid penalties, while calling for the cooperation of the public to ensure a smooth implementation of the policy.
The enforcement team includes Divisional Traffic Officers, DTOs, members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, and officials from the Rivers State Board of Internal Revenue.
