Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested four suspects for their alleged involvement in cultism and having guns in Benin, the state capital.
The suspects, Isioma Unwogo, 21; Godstime Imareigbe, 32; Apeleokha Raymond, 28; and Mutar Igie, 30, were arrested at Ahor community along the Benin-Lagos Bypass and Benin-Auchi Road respectively.
The command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, who stated this on Tuesday, said the suspects were arrested by the police during a stop-and-search duty at both locations.
He said Unwogo was arrested by the Ahor Police Station division at Orio Community with one cult-to-size and one live cartridge while on township patrol.
Chidi states that three other suspects, Imareigbe, Apeleokha and Igie, were arrested in a Toyota Camry with registration number ABC 265 RA during a stop-and-search duty on the Benin-Auchi Road.
He said during the search of the vehicle, the police recovered one Branil pistol concealed inside the vehicle burnet by the suspects.
He said, “The operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested four suspect for their alleged involvement in cultism and being in possession of guns in Benin.
“The suspects were arrested during a stop-and-search duty by the police while in possession of ammunition.”
He said the suspects made a statement and confessed to be members of a secret cult in the state.
The PPRO said the suspects would be charged to court soon.
