The New York Police Department has released two new photos of a person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The pictures—taken one day after the attack—depict a person wearing a neutral-toned hooded jacket, smiling in one of the pictures. The images were captured Dec. 5 from security footage recorded at an Upper West Side hostel where authorities believe the individual was staying, NBC News reported.
“Below are photos of a person of interest wanted for questioning regarding the Midtown Manhattan homicide on Dec. 4,” the NYPD said Dec. 5 in a message posted on X, formerly Twitter. “This does not appear to be a random act of violence; all indications are that it was a premediated, targeted attack.”
An unidentified assailant shot and killed Thompson, 50, on the morning of Dec. 4 outside the New York Hilton hotel in midtown Manhattan. The victim was on his way to speak at UnitedHealth Group’s investor conference when the gunman approached from behind and “fired several rounds,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference later that day.
