Four residents of Osun State were on Monday arraigned before a state Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Osogbo, the state capital, for allegations bordering on fighting in a pub, destruction of properties and theft.
The defendants, Abdulgarfar Opeyemi, Michael Abayomi, Opadotun Taiwo and Azeez Abiodun, had appeared before a presiding magistrate, Dr Olusegun Ayilara, on five counts pressed against them by the police.
The counts included conspiracy, assault, malicious damage, breach of peace and theft.
Giving further details about the allegations pressed against the defendants, the prosecutor, Mr Jacob Akintunde, said the defendants were friends and got involved in a fight at a pub located around Iyana camp, Osogbo.
He said, “The four are friends. They committed the offence on August 3, 2024, around 9:00 p m at the Iyana Camp Area, Osogbo. The four defendants beat up one Nurudeen Gazali ‘M” and inflicted injury on his head and right hand.
“They damaged four chairs, four creates of beer and glass plates valued at N46,000 which belong to Owonikoko Ganiyat.
The defendants also stole a gold wristwatch valued at N160,000 belonging to one Habib Abiodun.
“The offences committed are contrary to and punishable under Sections 516, 355, 451, 249(D) and 390(9) of Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.”
After their charges had been read, the defendants pleaded not guilty.
Having announced the appearance of the defendants earlier, Mr Olatunbosun Oladipupo, urged the court to admit them to bail.
In his ruling, Ayilara admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N250,000 and one surety in like sum each.
He subsequently adjourned the case to September 9, 2024, for a hearing.
