The Orlando Pirates defeated Stade d’Abidjan 3-0 at Orlando Stadium on Saturday in their Group C matchup of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League thanks to a dominant performance.
With two games left, the South African team’s victory put them atop the group standings.
When Mohau Nkota set up Relebohile Mofokeng, who scored a calm finish into the heart of the net in the 22nd minute, the home team took the lead.
Throughout the first half, Pirates maintained control of the pace and led 1-0 at the half.
Early in the second half, Nkota provided the Buccaneers with another accurate assist, and Patrick Maswanganyi hit the bottom left corner to increase their lead.
The Pirates kept up their momentum since Stade d’Abidjan was having trouble creating clear opportunities.
In the 85th minute, Deon Hotto scored from close range to complete a quick break and seal the win.
Orlando Pirates won the second game of the group stage, and the visitors seldom put their defence in danger.
After defeating Belouizdad 1-0 on Friday, Orlando Pirates now have eight points, one more than Al Ahly.
Stade d’Abidjan is still at the bottom with one point, while Belouizdad is in third position with six.
The Pirates are in a strong position to qualify for the quarterfinals with two games remaining in the group stage.
It looks to be a high-stakes match when they next play Al Ahly in Cairo.
