The Secretary to the Ondo State Government (SSG), Mr. Tayo Oluwatuyi, popularly known as Tukana, has died.
Reports indicate that Oluwatuyi passed away on Saturday in an undisclosed hospital.
While details surrounding his death remain unclear, it was revealed that he had been involved in a road accident along the Ife-Ibadan Road on December 19, 2024, which led to his hospitalization.
Confirming the news in a statement, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Wale Akinlosotu, described Oluwatuyi as a devoted public servant who made significant contributions to the state’s development.
“It is with profound sadness that the Government of Ondo State announces the passing of Hon. Temitayo Oluwatuyi, Secretary to the State Government, on January 4, 2025,” the statement read.
The commissioner further disclosed, “Hon. Oluwatuyi was involved in a serious car accident on December 15, 2024, while traveling to Ibadan and had been hospitalized since then. He was a dedicated public servant whose exceptional contributions to administrative coordination, policy advisory, and implementation left a lasting impact on Ondo State.”
Akinlosotu highlighted Oluwatuyi’s extensive career in public service, noting his roles as Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Commissioner, and two-time SSG. “He served with distinction and worked closely with the Governor and other top officials to advance the state’s progress. Hon. Oluwatuyi will forever be remembered for his invaluable contributions to the development of Ondo State,” the statement added.
The Ondo State Government extended heartfelt condolences to the Oluwatuyi family, friends, and associates during this time of mourning.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who appointed Oluwatuyi as the Secretary to the State Government on January 24, 2024, expressed his grief over the loss.
The Commissioner for Information stated that details of the late SSG’s memorial arrangements would be announced in due course.
