Brighton & Hove Albion defeated Manchester United 3-1 at home on Sunday, with visiting winger Yankuba Minteh scoring one goal and setting up another.
The home team was further hindered by a clumsy goalkeeping performance from Andre Onana.
Brighton also scored goals from Georginio Rutter and Kaoru Mitoma in the second half, while VAR disallowed a goal from Joao Pedro for a foul during the build-up.
Bruno Fernandes gave United a penalty kick to tie the game at one before halftime, but Onana’s routine gather from a low cross into the box allowed Rutter to tap home the loose ball after Brighton had taken the lead for the second time.
Brighton has won six of their last seven league games against United and on their last three trips to Old Trafford.
The teams were led out by bagpipes in honour of club great Denis Law, who passed away this week, and former manager Alex Ferguson laid a wreath at the centre circle.
Mitoma beat the offside trap on the left from Carlos Baleba’s long ball, and his pass across goal provided a simple finish for the unmarked Minteh.
Brighton now sits in ninth place with 34 points, four points behind the top four.
