Flamingos head Coach Bankole Olowookere is certain that Nigeria’s U17 girls, known as the Flamingos, would have another fantastic against Ecuador at the ongoing FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
With their second Group A match against debutants Ecuador on Saturday at the present FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup championships in the Dominican Republic.
At the start of Matchday 2, tomorrow, the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Dominican Republic 2024 will only have been going for four days, but the competition is already at its decisive phase.
The two opening-day victors, Ecuador and Nigeria, square off in Santiago de los Caballeros with the goal of securing a spot in the round of eight.
In Group A, New Zealand and the Dominican Republic square off against one another, both knowing that a loss would be the end of their tournament.
“Our tournament strategy is to focus on the next match, take it one match at a time.
“We need not look farther than the next match, and now, we have Ecuador in our sights.
“The players have recovered well from their opening match victory over New Zealand and we are ready for Ecuador.
“We know that three points in that game will all but get us into the knock-out stage. It is an opportunity we will not allow to slip out of our hands.”
Nigeria’s victory on Wednesday propelled them to the top of Group A, where they remain due to their goal differential over Ecuador, who defeated the Dominican Republic 2-0.
The game on Saturday is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. (Nigerian time) at the CFC Stadium, the same venue where the Flamingos destroyed the New Zealanders.
