The head coach of the Flamingos, Bankole Olowookere, was pleased to see his team continue to win the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a perfect record.
In their final group match, Olowookere’s team defeated the hosts, Dominican Republic, 1-0 on Wednesday morning.
Nigeria’s goal in the 89th minute was scored by Shakirat Moshood.
With three games played and nine points, the Flamingos won Group A.
“I’m so happy, I’m happy for myself, happy for the team and happy for the whole of Nigeria,” she was quoted by FIFA.com.
“We knew in this match we had to manage our energy and strength; these are young girls with many games to play so we had to take it easy.”
On Saturday night, Nigeria will play the United States of America in the quarterfinals.
