The Executive Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission, Mr Onoriode Oborevwori, Tuesday in Asaba, assured players and officials of Delta Queens football club of government’s unflinching support for their success in the upcoming season.
The female football league is scheduled to kick off in January, 2025.
Speaking when he met with the technical officials of the team, the sports commission boss urged them to prepare adequately for the challenges of playing in the elite women competition which Delta Queens won two seasons ago.
He said the commission was leaving no stone unturned at efforts to motivate the team with improved welfare packages by prompt settlement of salaries and bonuses.
The chairman further explained it was a commitment to drive the MORE agenda of the state government on sports.
The meeting was the first for the Executive Chairman of the newly inaugurated board of the commission.
Present at the meeting was the Director General of the commission Mr Festus Ohwojero, former Super Eagles defender and the member representing Delta Central on the Sports Commission board, Mr Sam Sodje and some directors.
Also present at the meeting was the General Manager Delta Queens Football Club of Asaba, Chief Mercy Awana, the clubs secretary, Miss Joy Oyibo and former Super Falcons Coach, Peter Dedevbo who was recently appointed by the Sports Commission to tinker the team in the forthcoming Nigeria Women Football League season.
