1. Dangote Petroleum Refinery reduced the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, commonly known as petrol, from N950 to N890 on Saturday. It said the price adjustment was in response to favourable developments in the global energy sector and a significant decline in international crude oil prices.
2. The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has urged the Federal Government to pay the 2025 Medical Residency Training Funds, the outstanding 2023 and 2024 MRTF, and the arrears of the 2022 MRTF. NARD also expressed disappointment over the non-payment of the arrears of the upwardly revised Consolidated Medical Salary Structure salary and other outstanding salary structures.
3. Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, has criticised Nigerians for condemning corruption while simultaneously defending corrupt individuals when they face prosecution. Speaking in Abuja on Friday during a visit by officials of the Centre for Crisis Communication, led by Chris Olukolade, Olukoyede stressed that corruption remains the biggest obstacle to Nigeria’s development.
4. The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has petitioned security agencies, alerting them of a threat to peace and security. Anyanwu accused the party’s governors of inviting chaos with the recognition of Sunday Udo-Okoye as National Secretary
5. The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association says its members have started loading dual-purpose kerosene, automotive gas oil, and premium motor spirits at the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries. The spokesperson of PETROAN, Joseph Obele, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
6. The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, in collaboration with the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, DSVA, have rescued a nine-year-old girl allegedly molested by one Baba Michael. The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Ogunlende, disclosed this in a statement on his official X handle @ Mo_ogunlende on Saturday.
7. The Federal Government says it has allocated N940.5 billion to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in the 2025 fiscal year, to enhance manpower and infrastructure development in the education sector. President Bola Tinubu stated this on Saturday at the 42nd Founders’ Day and 33rd Convocation of the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
6. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it has seized illicit goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N77.476 million in Ogun between Jan. 1 and Jan. 27. The Area Comptroller, NCS Ogun 1 Area Command, Mr Mohammed Shuaibu, made this known in an interview with NAN on Saturday in Ota, Ogun.
7. Seven people sustained varying degrees of injury on Friday night in an accident involving a V-wagon commercial bus and a Toyota Camry car on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. The Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Mr William Manga, confirmed the incident. He said the accident occurred at about 11.10p.m at Sawmill Bus Stop, Ibereko area of the expressway.
8. Elder statesman, Dr. Usman Bugaje, has lamented the deteriorating condition of Northern Nigeria, stressing that the region is facing serious challenges that require collective efforts to prevent total collapse. According to him, the region is plagued by poverty, insecurity, and corruption. He said nearly 60% of students in tertiary institutions cannot return to school because their parents cannot afford tuition or transportation fees.
9. The ruling All Progressives Congress on Saturday described the opposition Peoples Democratic Party as a political platform that is gradually going into extinction amid its perennial leadership crisis. APC urged Nigerians to ensure that the PDP did not return to power following the alleged rot it left behind after ruling the country for 16 years.
10. Former UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya suffered his second career knockout loss on Saturday night, falling to Nassourdine Imavov via second-round TKO in the main event of UFC Fight Night 250 in Saudi Arabia. The Nigerian-Kiwi fighter, who entered the bout on a two-fight losing streak following defeats to Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis, started well with a series of hard low kicks.
