Morocco defeated Lesotho 7-0 to end their TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification campaign without losing a point and finished top of Group B.
The penultimate matchday presented an opportunity to end the group phase spectacularly, as Morocco and Gabon were already guaranteed spots in the competition for the following year.
In front of a boisterous home crowd at the Stade d’Honneur d’Oujda, Morocco continued to win six of their six games, extending their flawless record in Group B.
With five goals in the first half, including a brace from Brahim Díaz, the hosts dominated Lesotho. Shortly before halftime, Soufiane Rahimi converted a penalty to increase the score.
Youssef En-Nesyri and Ismael Saibari scored to finish the rout as the Atlas Lions continued to play with intensity in the second half.
Morocco’s remarkable +24 goal differential at the end of the season demonstrated their supremacy.
Morocco is one of the tournament favourites to host AFCON 2025, having given up just two goals this season.
