Mets to play Tuesday if they clinch Wild Card spot as MLB releases postseason schedule

The Mets enter Monday’s doubleheader in Atlanta needing one win to clinch a postseason berth and – if they accomplish that feat – will have a quick turnaround before opening up the Wild Card Series.

Even with both the Mets and Braves fighting for a postseason spot, MLB announced Game 1 of a Wild Card Series involving those two teams – if they both make it – will take place on Tuesday night.

Entering Monday, New York (88-72) is tied with Atlanta (88-72) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (89-73) for the final two Wild Card spots in the National League.

If there is a split in Monday’s doubleheader, the Mets would be the No. 6 seed and would play at the Milwaukee Brewers with Tuesday’s Game 1 first game at 5:32 p.m. ET.

If New York earns a sweep on Monday, Carlos Mendoza‘s team would be the No. 5 seed and travel to play the San Diego Padres. The first pitch for Tuesday’s Game 1 is set for 8:38 p.m. ET.

In both situations, all of the games in the best of three series would be on the road for the Mets.

Here is the complete Wild Card Series schedule for both eventualities:

If the Mets face the Brewers in Milwaukee:

Game 1: Tuesday, Oct 1, 5:32 p.m. ET

Game 2: Wednesday, Oct. 2, 7:38 p.m. ET

Game 3 (if necessary): Oct. 3, 7:08 p.m. ET

If the Mets face the Padres in San Diego:

Game 1: Tuesday, Oct 1, 8:38 p.m. ET

Game 2: Wednesday, Oct. 2, 8:38 p.m. ET

Game 3 (if necessary): Oct. 3, 8:38 p.m. ET

(The start time for Game 3 in both scenarios could change depending on if the other three series this round end after two games.)
