Manchester United have officially signed 20-year-old Danish defender Patrick Dorgu from Italian club Lecce. The transfer, valued at £25 million with an additional £4 million in performance-related add-ons, sees Dorgu committing to a contract until June 2030, with an option for a further year.
Dorgu, who joined Lecce’s youth setup in 2022, made his senior debut at the start of the 2023–24 season. Over two seasons, he amassed 57 appearances and netted five goals for the Serie A side.
Expressing his enthusiasm about the move, Dorgu stated: “I am incredibly proud to be able to call myself a Manchester United player; this is a very special day for my whole family. I cannot wait to work with Ruben Amorim; his vision for this team and the future of the club is incredibly exciting.”
Dorgu’s versatility allows him to operate as a left-back, wing-back, or even further forward on the flanks … making him a valuable asset for United’s tactical setups. His arrival comes as the club addresses challenges in the left-back position due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrrell.
On the international stage, Dorgu has earned four caps for Denmark, marking his debut in September 2024 and scoring his first international goal shortly after.
This signing marks the second addition to Manchester United’s squad under manager Ruben Amorim, who took the helm in November. The club is currently striving to improve its standing in the Premier League, where it sits in 12th place.
