Lincoln University Malaysia has offered 80% scholarships to 2,500 indigent Nigerian students, as part of its social corporate responsibility initiative.
The university’s founder, Prof. Amiya Bhaumik, announced this during the matriculation ceremony for 500 students at the Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK) campus, in Nasarawa State.
Prof. Bhaumik explained that the scholarship programme aims to meet the growing demand for international-standard education in Nigeria.
He noted that the initiative would allow students to pay tuition fees comparable to those of government-owned institutions in the country.
Lincoln University’s Pro-Chancellor, Professor Bibi Florina, reiterated the university’s commitment to nurturing future global leaders, highlighting the significance of the partnership between Lincoln University and NSUK.
Speaking at the event, NSUK Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, expressed excitement over NSUK being the first Nigerian university to host an international institution on its campus.
Mr Kichime Gotau, Head of Public Affairs at Lincoln University’s NSUK campus, emphasised the scholarship programme’s goal to bridge the gap between privileged and less privileged students, ensuring that all deserving individuals have access to top-tier education.
Yusrah Ishaq, one of the matriculating students, shared her optimism, stating that parents had made the best choice in sending their children to the institution.
