The focus for Mamelodi Sundowns has now shifted back to the league competition, following a victorious weekend in the Carling Knockout Cup.
They head back to the Betway Premiership to do battle Royal AM at home, on Wednesday evening at Loftus Versfeld. The league title defenders come from the back of a 5-0 triumph and will be looking to continue to with their winning.
Royal AM, on the other hand, will be looking to record their first victory in the league, having drawn in the four league encounters they have played so far.
Looking ahead to the mid-week fixture, midfielder, Lebohang Maboe touched on anticipating a difficult and aggressive Royal AM side.
“I am expecting a big fight. I think they are a team that has not been doing quite well in their previous games and we already know that any team that plays against us is always willing to even shed blood. They are not a team that looks to play a lot from the back. They play a lot from second balls and if we can manage the second balls, I think we have got a greater chance at winning the game.”
Despite thinking that the KwaZulu-Natal-based side will come guns blazing, Maboe also believes that his side knows what is expected of them in this fixture. He further confidently stated that they are capable of walking away with the maximum points.
“We’ve got a very great squad and players that can break down any defence on any given day. Playing for Mamelodi Sundowns puts a big responsibility to put smiles on our supporters. It’s also important for us to put the team in a good position to win the game. it’s our home game, so it’s very important for us to win the game and collect the three points,” he said.
The Heidelberg-born midfielder concluded by urging the Yellow Nation to support the team and become the 12th man, saying: “they must come in numbers to come and support us. we are looking forward to having them over and making them happy with positive results.”
Mamelodi Sundowns will play hosts to Royal AM on Wednesday evening at Loftus Versfeld. Kick-off is scheduled for 19H30.
