The Junior Starlets, Kenya’s U17 women’s national football team, are gearing up for a pivotal World Cup qualifier match against Uganda in March 2025.
This marks their first competitive assignment since their historic debut at the U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic.
Kenya was granted a bye in the opening round of the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers, but now they face Uganda in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
The tie will be contested in two legs, with the first match scheduled between March 7 and 9, 2025, and the return leg set for March 14 to 16, 2025.
Speaking about the team’s preparations, Head Coach Mildred Cheche remarked, “Our focus is firmly set on the upcoming qualifiers, and we are fully committed to achieving our goal of qualifying for the World Cup.”
She further highlighted the significance of the recently concluded Girls Integrated Football Tournament (GIFT) in Tanzania as a crucial part of their build-up.
“The GIFT tournament provided an excellent platform for us. We had two Kenyan teams competing, with one securing third place and the other finishing fifth. It was an invaluable opportunity to assess our players in a competitive setting and refine their skills ahead of the qualifiers.”
The Junior Starlets are poised for an exciting battle as they look to secure a spot at the 2025 U17 Women’s World Cup, with both teams eager to represent East Africa on the global stage.
