Kathy Bates’ reaction to her 2025 Golden Globes loss was filled with anything but misery.
After Shogun‘s Anna Sawai took home the award in the Best Actress in a Television Series—Drama category during the Jan. 5 show, the Matlock star didn’t see a need for her acceptance speech.
As Anna’s win was announced and she made it to the stage, the 76-year-old was captured clapping before staring down the camera and ripping up a piece of paper—which appeared to be her speech—and tossed it behind her.
It was all fun, as the Oscar-winning actress continued to gleefully clap while Anna made her way to the stage to accept her award. (Click here to see all the winners.)
Fellow nominee Keri Russell (The Diplomat) was also captured playfully reacting as if her name was called, while she could be seen clapping while mouthing the words, “Thank you, thank you,” before kissing the person sitting next to her. Emma D’Arcy, (House of the Dragon), Maya Erskine, (Mr. and Mrs. Smith), and Keira Knightley (Black Doves), also clapped for the 32-year-old actress as she accepted her first award.
