The Kano State Commissioner for Ministry of Public Procurement, Project Monitoring, and Evaluation, Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, has expressed disappointment over the slow progress of the ongoing construction of the Kwankwasiyya Gida-Gida Blocks of 4 Classrooms in Rufa’i town, Doguwa Local Government.
In a statement issued by Sagiru Ado Abubakar, the Information Officer for the Ministry, the Commissioner conveyed his dissatisfaction during a monitoring tour.
He noted that the contractor had failed to appear at the site despite receiving partial payment for the project.
While the Commissioner reported being pleased with most of the other projects visited during the monitoring tour, he expressed frustration over the lack of progress in Rufa’i town.
“This is the only project causing us concern, with the contractor absent and no progress reports available,” he said.
Comrade Sumaila announced that he had instructed the contractor to report to his office the following day to provide an explanation regarding the delay.
He reiterated his commitment to safeguarding the interests of the government in project implementation, emphasizing the importance of project quality to ensure transparency, accountability, and value for money in public procurement across the state.
Yesterday, the Commissioner inspected six ongoing projects across the Kiru, Tudun Wada, and Doguwa local governments. These included the upgrading and renovation of Kafin Mai Yaki Primary Health Care to a General Hospital, the construction of a 5-kilometer road in Tudun Wada, and the general renovation of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso College of Arts, Science, and Remedial Studies.
He also visited road construction sites in Doguwa and the Kwankwasiyya Gida-Gida Blocks of 4 Classrooms in Tudun Wada and Rufa’i town.
