The Kano State Government has called on the National Boundary Commission to prioritize resolving border disputes nationwide, particularly in areas experiencing heightened tensions.
Emphasizing the need for sustainable conflict-resolution strategies, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf conveyed this message yesterday while receiving a delegation from the Commission, led by its Director General, Mr. Adamu Adaji.
Representing the Governor, Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo acknowledged the Commission’s crucial role in addressing both national and international boundary issues. He highlighted Kano State’s commitment to peaceful coexistence with neighboring states through effective dispute-resolution mechanisms that foster development.
Governor Yusuf underscored the importance of preventing conflicts before they escalate, stating, “No matter how small a dispute is, we must strive to prevent it, as it can grow into a crisis that threatens development and unity.”
He also urged the Commission to prioritize resolving the Kano-Katsina-Zinder border issue, emphasizing its significance in reviving the historic trans-Saharan trade route.
Earlier, Director General Adamu Adaji explained that the delegation’s visit was part of an advocacy mission and included a technical meeting focused on the Kano-Jigawa inter-state border.
