The Kaduna State 2023 Labour Party candidates have rallied support for Senator Nenadi Usman, the National Chairperson of the caretaker committee of the party, urging stakeholders to unite behind her in repositioning the party as a robust opposition force.
The group’s spokesperson, Dr Yusuf Abdullahi, made the call in a statement issued to newsmen, saying that Nenadi’s emergence as the National Caretaker Committee Chairperson has saved the party from the brink of collapse, as she deserved the continued support to lead the party and foster unity.
He asserted, “If not for her emergence, Nigeria’s electoral bodies would have deregistered the Labour Party and could not participate in any elections.”
He dismissed media reports by a splinter group calling for Nenadi’s removal, stating that they are renegades who have lost grip with reality, citing the Labour Party’s victory in some parts of the country and especially Kaduna State during the 2023 general elections as some of Nenadi’s achievements.
Abdullahi emphasized the chairperson’s commitment to internal conflict resolution, stating that they are aware of a deliberate attempt to destabilize the party using some renegades who have lost relevance.
He added that the national caretaker committee chairman is well known as a grassroots politician, rising from a Commissioner, with a good track record of achievements, to her representation as an elected Senator representing Kaduna-South Senatorial district and a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and with this synopsis, they are of the view that better times await the LP, with her at the head of affairs.
The statement commended the 2023 Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, all serving Senators, House of Representatives members, and other critical stakeholders of the party nationwide for their role in ensuring Sen Nenadi’s emergence.
According to him, her social-political engagements in the past would surely manifest in the quality of leadership she will offer to the party, stressing that as a seasoned politician, they expect her to advance positive party politics in Nigeria.
He said he believes the party cannot achieve any meaningful democratic dividends in governance without ensuring sound and transparent internal administration.
