This afternoon at Juba National Stadium, the Junior Bright Star had a preparatory friendly game with El Merriekh SC Bentiu which ended 4-0 in favor of El Merriekh SC Bentiu.
The game is part of the team’s preparations for the upcoming U-17 Africa Cup of Nations CECAFA Qualifiers 2024,which is slated for December 14-28, 2024 respectively.
Meanwhile, the President of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA), Gen. Augustino Madout Parek, Mr. Wiyual Lam Pouch the chairman of the SSFA Organizing Committee, Secretary General Victor Lawrence Lual, and national senior team’s captain, Juma Jenaro have rallied the U17 National Team with words of encouragement as they prepare for the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers for the 2025 AFCON U17.
South Sudan has been placed in Group B alongside regional rivals Kenya, Sudan, and Somalia. The team is determined to build on its impressive performance in the previous edition, where they beat Tanzania in a dramatic penalty shootout to qualify for AFCON and reached the final before falling to Somalia 3-1.
During a motivational session with the players, Gen. Parek urged the young stars to embrace the challenge with pride and determination, “You have already made us proud by putting South Sudan on the map of African football. Now is the time to push further and showcase your discipline, talent, and resilience. Trust in your training, trust in your teammates, and play with courage. The entire nation is behind you,” said the SSFA President.
SSFA Secretary General Victor Lawrence Lual emphasized the importance of teamwork and focus, “You’ve proven your potential in the past, and now it’s time to raise the bar. Believe in yourselves and in each other. Remember, every challenge is an opportunity for growth. Play for the pride of South Sudan, and the SSFA will always stand by you,” he stated.
National team captain Juma Jenaro shared his experience, encouraging the U17 squad to make the most of their opportunity, “This is your moment to shine. You’ve already shown the region what South Sudan can achieve. Play with one heart, unity, and determination. Support each other and never give up, no matter the challenges. We believe in you,” Jenaro said passionately.
As South Sudan prepares to face Kenya, Sudan, and Somalia in the group stage, expectations are high for another historic run. The qualifiers are not only a test of skill but also a testament to the rapid growth of youth football in South Sudan.
