The President of the Commonwealth Games, Chris Jenkins Obe has ueged the Togolese government to invest in the sports sector ahead of their maiden outing at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Jenkins Obe who is currently in Togo said he met with authorities in the country including the president of the NOC Togo, Akpaki Deladem, where he explained to them on the benefits of participating in the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
The Commonwealth President who spoke with Togolese media after the meeting with the authorities and stakeholders revealed that with Togo going to participate in their first ever Commonwealth Games since the country joined the Commonwealth countries, it was imperative that they overhaul their sporting sector.
He said the purpose of the Commonwealth Games is aimed at uniting all members through the Games
“It’s been great to be here in Togo for couple of days talking with the government, the prime minister and the National Assembly to talk about the Glasgow Commonwealth 2026 which is the next game.
“It is the first one that Togo will be competing which is fantastic joining the rest of the commonwealth and also and the youth games which will come up in 2027 which will also be Togo’s first outing.
“We talked about the sports and the values of the commonwealth game.
“Smaller countries sometimes don’t go to the Olympics but the commonwealth games have a valuable power for athletes and coaches development.
We are also talking about the power of sports and how it is being recognized as important to the health of every nations health and the educational wellbeing.
“The commonwealth game is inclusive and have both the para and able bodied athletes side by side and we have Programs designed to help para athletes achieving their dreams when they come to the Commonwealth Games.
