Marcus Rashford’s early goal was negated by a deflected drive from Omari Hutchinson in the Premier League on Sunday, forcing Manchester United to settle for a 1-1 draw against lowly Ipswich Town in Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge.
After a brilliant move down the right by Amad, Rashford sneaked in between two defenders to drive the ball home, and United silenced the home crowd.
The atmosphere at Portman Road was electrifying.
As halftime approached, United goalie Andre Onana produced a spectacular one-handed save to deny Liam Delap, but Ipswich equalised in the 43rd minute when Hutchinson curled a shot into the top corner with the assistance of a deflection from visitors.
Both teams were unable to produce a winner after the interval, with Ipswich attacker Sam Szmodics coming close with a back-heel that Onana stopped with his feet.
As a result, United is now six points off of the top four in 12th place with 16 points.
Ipswich has nine and is in 18th place.
