Hisbah operatives have rescued 16 underage girls from a suspected human trafficking ring at a luxury bus station in Kano State.
The victims, hailing from various northern Nigerian states including Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, and Borno, were allegedly being smuggled to Lagos with the ultimate destination of Arab countries via Benin Republic and Ghana.
Deputy Commandant of Hisbah, Mujahid Aminuddeen Abubakar, stated that the girls, unaware of their fate, faced the grim prospect of being sold into forced labor, prostitution, or even slavery.
“All the children are underage and all females and they don’t even know what is happening. From here, some of them will die, some will be sold, some will be subjected to prostitution, some will be made slaves and it’s all against the law.
“There are Nine girls from Kano, four from Katsina, two from Jigawa, one from Borno; about 16 of them.” He revealed.
He emphasized the critical role of parental vigilance in preventing such tragedies, urging parents to prioritize their children’s safety over the allure of quick financial gains.
The Hisbah authorities are currently investigating the trafficking ring and pursuing legal action against the perpetrators.
