Swedish top-flight club Hammarby IF has made headlines with the acquisition of 17-year-old Ghanaian winger Bernard Acheampong from Ghanaian lower-tier side AsanSka FC. The promising youngster, widely regarded as one of the brightest talents in Ghanaian football, will officially join Hammarby after his 18th birthday on January 31, 2025, in compliance with FIFA regulations on the international transfer of minors.
Acheampong’s explosive pace, dazzling dribbling skills, and knack for scoring crucial goals have drawn comparisons to some of Ghana’s most iconic wingers. His performances for AsanSka FC during the last two seasons caught the attention of scouts across Europe, but Hammarby’s persistence and structured development plan for the teenager secured his signature.
“It’s a dream come true to join a club like Hammarby,” Acheampong said in an exclusive interview. “I’ve always wanted to play in Europe, and Hammarby’s reputation for nurturing young players made them the perfect choice. I’m excited about the challenge and can’t wait to make an impact.”
The transfer agreement includes a structured development plan to integrate Acheampong into the first team while also ensuring his long-term growth. He will initially join Hammarby’s U-19 squad but will be given opportunities to train with the senior team, providing him with valuable exposure to top-tier football.
