Erling Haaland scored two goals in one of Manchester City’s greatest performances in weeks as they crushed West Ham United 4-1 in the Premier League on Saturday, securing their first back-to-back victories since October.
With 34 points, the champions are 11 points behind leaders Liverpool, who have two games remaining.
West Ham is currently in 13th place with 23 points after losing to leaders Liverpool 5-0. Savinho set up three goals at Etihad Stadium, including the first in the tenth minute when defender Vladimir Coufal deflected the Brazilian’s angled shot into the far corner.
Savinho scored his first goal for Man City in Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Leicester City, which was their first victory in five league games.
In the 42nd minute, Savinho sent in a deep cross, and the huge Norwegian sprang over to head in, giving Haaland his first double in a Premier League match since September.
Shortly after halftime, Haaland scored his second goal after Savinho had set him free and the 24-year-old casually chipped past goalie Alphonse Areola.
In the 58th minute, De Bruyne jumped on a careless ball from Mohammed Kudus and fired a square pass to Phil Foden for a simple tap-in, extending City’s lead.
The visitors received a late consolation from Niclas Fullkrug.
West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui will regret a number of his team’s good chances in the first half, including a shot from Kudus into the side netting after the Hammers had cut through a nervous-looking City defence.
Lopetegui chose to head straight for the tunnel at full time rather than cheer the visiting supporters.
After running to the right, Kudus clipped the ball back to Tomas Soucek, who missed his shot, then Kudus missed another one.
Only four of West Ham’s 17 shots—compared to City’s 10—went on goal, while the home team’s seven were.
The Hammers are tied for the worst with bottom-place Southampton after giving up three goals or more in eight games this season.
City has only scored four goals in a league game twice all season, the other being a 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town.
