Ghana’s Black Stars saw their hopes of qualifying for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations come to an end after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Angola in Luanda.
Jordan Ayew gave Ghana an early lead in the 18th minute with a sublime free-kick, sparking hope for a much-needed victory. The hosts, however, were awarded a penalty in the 28th minute, but Ghana’s goalkeeper, Manaf Nurudeen, came to the rescue by saving Mbala Nzola’s effort, keeping Ghana ahead at halftime.
In the second half, Ghana pushed for a second goal to solidify their position, but Angola’s defense held firm. The decisive blow came in the 64th minute when Angola equalized, shattering Ghana’s chances of maintaining their qualification hopes.
With just three points from a possible 15, Ghana is now mathematically eliminated from the qualifiers, marking a significant disappointment for one of Africa’s footballing powerhouses.
