The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the indefinite postponement of the much-anticipated Ghana Football Retreat, initially slated for Wednesday, November 27, 2024. The retreat was intended to address Ghana’s disappointing performance in the recent AFCON qualifiers and to chart a new course for the national teams.
In a statement issued, the GFA cited the need for broader participation as the key reason behind the postponement.
“Following consultations with key partners and stakeholders, it became imperative to reschedule the Ghana Football Retreat to a later date to ensure the full and meaningful participation of all in this important engagement on the national teams,” the statement read.
The retreat was expected to serve as a platform for introspection, accountability, and strategy formulation, involving various football administrators, technical experts, and stakeholders across the country.
The GFA assured the public that a new date would be announced soon.
“A new date for the retreat will be announced in due course. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all our members, partners, and stakeholders,” the statement concluded.
The decision comes at a time of heightened scrutiny over the state of Ghanaian football, with many fans and analysts calling for reforms to restore the national teams’ competitiveness on the continental and global stages. While the postponement may delay the much-needed discussions, it also offers an opportunity to ensure that all voices are heard when the retreat eventually takes place.
Fans now await further communication from the GFA on the rescheduled date and the steps being taken to improve the fortunes of Ghana football.
