The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has strongly condemned the violent scenes that disrupted the Ghana Premier League fixture between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC on February 2, 2025, at Nana Kronamansah Park. The incident, marked by chaos and hooliganism, led to tragic consequences, including the loss of life and multiple injuries.
In an official statement, the GFA expressed its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and extended well wishes to those injured. The football governing body emphasized that such acts tarnish the integrity of the game and vowed swift action to ensure justice and accountability.
As an immediate response, the GFA’s Executive Committee has invoked Article 14(2) of the Premier League Regulations, placing an indefinite ban on Nsoatreman FC’s home venue. The decision, according to the GFA, is aimed at ensuring the safety of players, officials, and fans while thorough investigations are carried out.
The Security Committee, led by DCOP Lydia Donkor, alongside the FA Prosecutors, has been tasked with conducting an on-site inquiry and compiling a comprehensive report. Their findings will be presented to the FA’s Disciplinary Committee, which will determine the appropriate sporting sanctions.
Beyond internal football sanctions, the GFA has officially engaged the Ghana Police Service to launch a full-scale criminal investigation. Authorities have been instructed to identify, arrest, and prosecute all individuals responsible for the violence.
The GFA has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on hooliganism, warning all clubs, players, officials, and supporters that any acts of violence, intimidation, or lawlessness will be met with severe repercussions. The governing body has also hinted at potential further disciplinary actions as investigations progress.
