Everton Football Club taken over by The Friedkin Group, marking a new chapter in the history of one of England’s most valuable football institutions. The deal, which involved purchasing Farhad Moshiri’s 94% stake in the club, was finalized following approval by the Premier League board.
The Premier League confirmed that the Friedkin Group’s 98.8% acquisition had successfully passed the league’s stringent owners’ and directors’ test.
In a bid to rally Everton supporters, Dan Friedkin, the American businessman and film producer leading the Friedkin Group, penned a heartfelt message to fans via the club’s official website. In his letter, Friedkin expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of Evertonians and introduced Marc Watts as the incoming executive chairman of the club.
“Following the completion of the takeover of Everton Football Club, I want to express my gratitude for your continued support and introduce the incoming executive chairman of Everton, Marc Watts,” Friedkin wrote. “I take immense pride in welcoming one of England’s most historic football clubs to our global family, the Friedkin Group. Everton represents a proud legacy, and we are honoured to become custodians of this great institution.”
Friedkin provided insight into the group’s diverse portfolio, which spans industries such as sports, automotive, entertainment, hospitality, and adventure. “Across all our endeavours, we strive to deliver extraordinary experiences that ignite people’s passions. We are thrilled to bring this ethos to Everton and the Liverpool city region,” he added.
Acknowledging the deep cultural and historical significance of Everton Football Club, Friedkin emphasized the group’s commitment to preserving the club’s heritage while fostering positive contributions to the local community. “Whilst we are new to the club, we fully understand the vital role Everton plays in local culture, history, and the lives of Evertonians here and around the world. We are deeply committed to honouring this legacy while contributing positively to the community, economy, and people of this remarkable city,” he said.
The letter concluded with a note of appreciation: “Once again, thank you for your continued support.”
The completion of this takeover heralds a new era for Everton Football Club, as the Friedkin Group prepares to work closely with the team, supporters, and the wider Liverpool community to usher in a promising future.
