.As fire outbreak engulfs two-storey building in Mushin

The tragedy occurred on Sunday when two trucks collided at Powerline by Cele Bus Stop, Ita-Oluwo, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
According to the report, one of the containerized trucks was loaded while the other was empty.
The loaded container truck suffered a brake failure while attempting to evade a revenue collector in pursuit.
This mechanical failure triggered a catastrophic chain of events, including collisions with other vehicles and damage to nearby buildings.
According to the Director, of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, the tragic incident, led to the rescue of two individuals trapped in the wreckage, while two others were recovered lifeless.
All victims were immediately conveyed to the General Hospital, Ikorodu, where the survivors are currently receiving medical care.
LASTMA’s rapid and coordinated response, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Fire Service, and personnel from the Nigerian Army’s 174 Battalion, was instrumental in the rescue efforts. LASTMA officials promptly cordoned off the accident site using caution tape to safeguard the public and facilitate the operations of emergency responders.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the loaded container truck suffered a brake failure while allegedly attempting to evade a revenue collector in pursuit. This mechanical failure triggered a catastrophic chain of events, including collisions with other vehicles and damage to nearby buildings.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Bakare-Oki Olalekan expressed profound condolences to the families of the deceased and lauded the heroic efforts of the rescue teams. He further extended his best wishes for a swift recovery to the injured survivors.
Efforts to clear the accident scene are currently underway, with LASTMA officials working tirelessly to remove the trucks and restore seamless traffic flow in the affected area.
The Agency reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to ensuring road safety and urged all road users to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to avert similar incidents in the future.
Similarly, a yet-to-be-identified man was feared dead when the driver of a Toyota Venza, registration number EKY 839 HU rammed over the pedestrian at Awoyokun, Onipanu area of Lagos State.
The unfortunate incident occurred as the driver who was on top speed hit the pedestrian while crossing the highway.
This was contained in a statement by the Permanent Secretary, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu.
The statement read, “Upon arrival at 2048hrs to the incident scene, LASEMA’s Cobra Response Team observed that a Toyota Venza, registration number EKY 839 HU oversped and hit a pedestrian at the aforementioned location.
“Preliminary investigations conducted by the Agency’s Response Team revealed that driver of the above-mentioned Toyota venza was on top speed when he lost control and collided with a male pedestrian that was crossing the highway.
“One yet to be identified adult male lost his life to the incident and had been taken off the scene before arrival of the responders.
“The Agency’s Response Team has informed officials of the Nigerian Police Force of the incident, and volatility of the scene due to activities of miscreants which escalated the incident, vandalized and set the accident vehicle ablaze.”
Also, a statement by Oke-Osanyintolu disclosed a fire outbreak at No 12, Oduntan Street, Mushin, Lagos.
At the scene of the inferno, a two storey building was gutted by fire that started from the front flat before it escalated to the back.
According to the report, the immediate cause of the fire was as a result of a leakage from a gas cylinder in one of the flats on the second floor.
The statement read in part, “On arrival at 1434hrs, LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team discovered that a two storey building comprising of two units of 3-bedroom flats on the second floor was gutted by fire that reportedly started from the front flat before it escalated to the back flat, at the aforementioned address.
“Preliminary investigations conducted by the Agency’s Eagle response team attributed immediate cause of the fire to gas leakage from a gas cylinder in one of the flats on the second floor.
“Fortunately, there was no loss of lives attributed to the incident. No injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.”
