The management of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Jalingo, Taraba State, has dismissed reports of a severe drug shortage in the hospital.
Admitting that, while there are ongoing supply chain challenges, the situation, according to the management, is not as critical as some media outlets have claimed.
In a statement to Journalists on Tuesday in Jalingo, the hospital management reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the availability of essential medications despite financial constraints inherited nearly five years ago.
A statement signed by Haruna Abubakar, of the protocol and public relations unit of the hospital said the management of the hospital has been actively working to clear outstanding debts to pharmaceutical vendors and maintain a steady drug supply.
“We invite journalists, stakeholders, and the public to visit our pharmacy, wards, and Accident and Emergency unit to verify the situation firsthand, ” the statement stated.
Acknowledging that no medical facility can guarantee 100% availability of all medications at all times, the management assured that patients are properly guided to obtain any unavailable drugs through standard procedures.
The hospital also clarified that while it does not provide free medications, it is committed to ensuring affordability and accessibility for all patients.
“NHIS enrollees continue to receive prescribed medications within their coverage framework, and the hospital remains dedicated to maintaining high medical service standards.”
