A fire outbreak at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Saturday caused extensive damage, with properties worth millions of naira destroyed.
According to reports, the fire started in the early hours, around 5 a.m., in the pediatric consultant’s office, reportedly due to an electrical spark.
The blaze impacted the hospital’s Emergency and Accident Unit, resulting in the destruction of equipment, books, engines, and electronic devices, as well as significant damage to the roofs and ceilings of the affected area.
To ensure safety, 16 patients were evacuated from the ward. The hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Omotayo Ogunleye, confirmed the incident but assured that normal operations have since resumed at the facility.
“Yes, it is true. It is a minor incident. But, normal activities have resumed in the hospital,” the Nation quoted Ogunleye saying.
