FAZ president Andrew Kamanga’s bid for a FIFA Council seat has received a major boost with the COSAFA Member Association Presidents resolving to back his candidature.
COSAFA President Said Ali Said Athouman said in a statement Wednesday afternoon that following a meeting of COSAFA Member Association Presidents held in Rabat, Morocco on Monday, 27 January, a resolution was taken that the Zonal Union will fully support Kamanga in his bid for a place on the FIFA Council.
Kamanga, who has been freshly given the all-clear by FIFA after he passed the Integrity Test among other conditions to contest the March 12 FIFA Council elections in Cairo will be feeling energized after this endorsement.
“At a meeting of COSAFA Member Association Presidents held in Rabat, Morocco on Monday, 27 January, a resolution was taken that the Zonal Union will fully support Mr Andrew Kamanga, President of the Football Association of Zambia, in his bid for a place on the FIFA Council,” reads a statement by Cosafa president Said Ali Athouman.
FIFA’s Review Committee has declared Mr Kamanga eligible to stand for the elections, which will be held at CAF’s Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo on 12 March, 2025.
The Cosafa boss says the zone has taken note of the strides the Zambian game has made under the stewardship of Kamanga.
“The COSAFA membership recognises the achievements of Mr Kamanga in Zambia, within the Southern African Zone and at CAF and FIFA levels and is in no doubt as to the strength and quality of his candidacy for the FIFA Council,” Athouman says.
“COSAFA believes Mr Kamanga will be a worthy representative for the Zonal Union.”
On 12th March 2025, Africa will be choosing six representatives for the coveted FIFA Council seats with one seat reserved for a female candidate.
Kamanga will be among 11 competitors for the available five seats for CAF male candidates. FIFA’s Review Committee has declared Kamanga eligible to stand for the elections, which will be held at CAF’s Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo on 12 March, 2025.
