Express and Police made moves up the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table following wins over 10-man Soltilo Bright Stars and Mbale Heroes on Thursday as KCCA dropped points at Police.
Ashraf Mulindi put the visitors, Bright Stars, ahead in the sixth minute at Nakivubo before a second half brace from Conrad Ssenjogera sealed all three points for Express.
Ssenjogera’s first goal was set up by Joseph Zziwa to cancel out Mulindi’s first half opener, which was crafted by Nelson Senkatuka, before Sam Ssenyonjo teed up the former to complete his brace on 66 minutes.
Bright Stars’ day turned from bad to worse on 68 minutes after Marvin Youngman received a straight red card for slapping Man of the Match, Ssenjogera, in retaliation.
The win, the Red Eagles’ sixth in 14 matches, moved them two places up to fourth on 22 points, six behind leaders Vipers SC, who have played a game fewer.
Bright Stars remain bottom of the 16-team log on just nine points having lost as many times and won only twice in 14 attempts.
At the Prisons Ground in Luzira, Ivan Mayanja’s 15th minute penalty was enough to hand Maroons a 1-0 victory over Mbale Heroes. Maroons’ sixth win moved them a place up to fifth on 22 points while Heroes remained second from bottom on nine marks.
Elsewhere at Kavumba, visitors KCCA settled for a point following a goalless draw with Police. KCCA remain fourth on the table with 24 points while Police are seventh on 18.
