Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey has told the player that would replace William Saliba in the Gunners’ starting XI to step up ahead of their Premier League tie with Liverpool next weekend.
Saliba will miss Arsenal’s clash with Liverpool after receiving a red card against Bournemouth at the weekend.
The France defender was sent off after a VAR check in Arsenal’s Premier League 2-0 defeat against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
Referee Rob Jones initially showed the Saliba a yellow card after he brought down Evanilson.
Jones was asked to review the incident on the pitchside monitor by VAR and eventually upgraded it to a red card.
“He’s a massive player who we are going to miss and somebody has to step up,” Partey was quoted as saying by Metro.
“We have good defenders and the coach knows what he is going to do to help the team and also, any player who is there has to step in and try to give their best.”
Before facing Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium next Sunday, Arsenal will face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday.
